SARA's 24 Hour Crisis Call Line, (775) 883-7654 operated in conjunction with Advocates to End Domestic Violence, makes reaching out for help simple no matter what time of day. With just a phone call you have access to a trained and caring person to confide in. During business hours an advocate is available at our office. After hours your call will be answered by an answering services that will transfer your call to a trained on-call volunteer. This person will have access to a wide range of help and information available in the Carson City area for victims of sexual assault. There is always someone on the other end of the phone. The SARA team is made up of trained volunteers and staff that are willing and able to accompany you on a hospital visit. Typically an advocate will respond to a request for hospital accompaniment. The advocate will stay with the victim and provide comfort, support and answers to questions, or remain with the family of the victim and provide them with the support they need. The SARA team is able to provide court accompaniment to victims of sexual violence throughout the legal process. We are able to stay with you from the very first arraignment of the perpetrator through to sentencing. We offer emotional support to the victim and the entire family while the victim is at court. We have knowledge of the court process and can usually answer questions about the legal process. The SARA team can provide accompaniment to the police station to file police reports and information reports. SARA offers referrals for counseling to survivors of sexual violence. Please call our office to set-up an appointment. We can also sometimes assist victims in locating private counselors in the community. SARA team members can provide assistance in filing for funds available from Victims of Crime compensation through the State of Nevada and Carson City. In some cases, funds are available for victims of sexual violence to seek medical care and counseling. Contact the SARA team at their 24 hour number (775-883-7654) for additional information about financial assistance and qualifications for these programs. SARA does not currently offer support groups, however, SARA can provide information on obtaining any support needed. |
